No! You can use the software by itself as a standalone app. We reccomend you have a MIDI controller. You can also use the software in your chosen Digital Audio Workstation.

After installing, most DAWs need to be restarted or manually rescanned before a new plug-in appears. Here's how to do it in the most common DAWs:
Ableton Live Go to Live > Preferences > Plug-ins. Make sure the VST3 or AU folder is enabled under "Active Plug-in Sources", then click Rescan. Restart Live after rescanning.
Logic Pro Logic scans automatically on launch. Quit Logic completely and reopen it. If the plug-in still doesn't appear, go to Logic Pro > Preferences > Plug-in Manager, find the plug-in in the list and click Reset & Rescan Selection.
Pro Tools Quit Pro Tools. Open the AAX plug-ins folder at /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins and confirm the plug-in is there. Relaunch Pro Tools — it scans automatically on startup.
FL Studio Go to Options > Manage Plugins and click Start Scan. Make sure your VST3 folder is listed under search paths. After scanning, new plug-ins appear in the Plugin Database.
Cubase / Nuendo Go to Studio > VST Plug-in Manager and click the Rescan button in the top right. If it still doesn't appear, click the trash icon to reset the cache, then rescan.
Studio One Go to Studio One > Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac) > Locations > VST Plug-ins and click Scan. For AU on Mac, restart Studio One — it scans on launch.
Reaper Go to Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > VST and click Re-scan. Make sure your VST3 folder path is listed. Reaper will find the plug-in without needing a restart.
GarageBand GarageBand only supports Audio Units. Quit GarageBand, then reopen it — it scans automatically on launch. If it still doesn't appear, open Audio MIDI Setup, go to the Window menu and select Show MIDI Studio, then restart.
Still not showing up? Make sure you installed the correct format for your DAW — AU for Logic and GarageBand, VST3 for most others. On Mac, AU plug-ins install to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components and VST3 plug-ins install to /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. On Windows, VST3 plug-ins install to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3. If you're still having trouble, get in touch and we'll help you out.
